Citi Breathes a Sigh of Relief

March 4th, 2009

By: Josh Cohen

After a 46 pitch bullpen session today, Johan told reporters that he is eyeing Opening Day.  He felt no pain and it’s his goal to pitch that first game.

As a Mets fan I don’t know if I should be excited or nervous.  We all look back and see Mo Vaughn, Robbie Alomar, and all the other big ticket superstars that have been brought in and immediately broke down.  Is it really worth the risk to have him throw game 1 of the season???  Yes, as a Mets fan I want to see Johan on the rubber when the season starts, but I’d rather see him not miss any other starts.  Let’s get him 100% healthy, make sure he is fine, get some ST work in before we get our hopes up…

Johan knows when he’s healthy, if he says he should open the year then he simply should.

The biggest complaint going into last season was that he did not act like a horse. And I was at the Phillies game where we were up 4 runs going into the last innings with my entire family and grandfather who is a “marlins fan”. He went around slapping ever Phillies fan 5 after that comeback and it was the worst car ride home ever. It’s nice to see him step and prove his worth after that.
